MON, FEB 1: Before our class meeting in CAR 109, please complete the following:
- Read this linked essay by Craig Hulst, “Grammar, Rhetoric, and Style,” from the book Writing Spaces: Readings on Writing, vol. 3, pp. 86-96.
- Review these linked instructions for reflection and style play journal entries. If you’re aiming for a B or an A, you’ll want to make plans to complete the required journal entries by February 12. Bring your questions!
- Optional but highly recommended: Request a WordPress site (using this linked website) and plan to join Friday’s optional Zoom call for an orientation to choosing a theme, creating a page for each project, and organizing your site with a menu. You may also use Google Sites (sites.google.com) to create and organize your portfolio, but Friday’s session with focus on WordPress.
WED, FEB 3: In preparation for our Zoom session (https://learnonline.unca.edu/course/view.php?id=8997#section-1), please complete the following (before class!):
- Read this linked essay by Vershawn Ashanti Young (“VAY”), “Should Writers Use They Own English?” from the book Writing Centers and the New Racism (eds. Greenfield & Rowan, pp. 161-72) and originally published in the Iowa Journal of Cultural Studies, vol. 12, no. 1 (2010), pp. 110-118.
- Using Google Drive’s comment feature, highlight and comment on aspects of the essay that you find helpful for understanding it OR elements that you find confusing.
FRI, FEB 5: Post your P1 draft to your folder by 5:00 pm, then use this link to sign up for an individual conference with Brian (all scheduled for next week).
