This second self-assessment, which you’ll share only with me, is designed to continue our conversation about how you’re doing and what you’re learning, this time through reflection on your experience with the first project.

INSTRUCTIONS: In a Word or Google doc of no more than 750 words, explore your responses to the following questions about your learning, work, and engagement in connection with project one — as well as the course overall. You may answer each question separately, or you may weave them together in a more integrated narrative — whichever approach makes most sense to you. (For submission details, see the assignment listing on Moodle.)

Project One Questions

  • How does your work on this project engage with the assessment criteria we crafted together for this project (as well as any other criteria you may have included in your design plan)? How well have you met each of these criteria? What, if anything, is missing? On the other hand, what elements of your work go beyond the minimum expectations? (For a visual representation of these questions, see this linked Google doc; feel free to make yourself a copy and fill out the table as a way to mark your completion of each criterion.)
  • How does your work on this project engage with each of the three course learning objectives? Which does your work on this project most relate to, or demonstrate your effort to achieve? How has your work on this project affected the way you understand these objectives?
  • What have you learned about writing, and about yourself as a writer, from your work on this project? Which of your learning goals has this project helped with? What new or revised goals do you want to set for yourself?
  • [OPTIONAL: Feel free to suggest a project grade for yourself, based on what you’ve learned, how you’ve engaged with the learning objectives, and whether (or how well) you’ve met (or exceeded) the assessment criteria. You could think holistically/overall OR “grade” each learning goal or assessment criterion separately and average them together.

Overall Questions at Midterm

  • What connections are you discovering between LANG 120 and your other courses or experiences this semester? What do you anticipate carrying forward from this class into other courses or situations beyond school?
  • What do you need to keep doing, or do differently, in order to complete the course successfully? What do you need more help with or clarification about? What might I do to support you?
  • What do you hope to accomplish in the second half of the course? For example, what genre(s) or specialized writing situations — such as writing in a particular academic major, professional setting, or civic/public forum — would you like to learn more about?
